Content and its Relationship to Frequency of Publication
You will find that the content and purpose of your E-Zine will help you determine the
frequency of publication.
Is your news perishable? If your readers need it on Monday, but do not receive it until
Wednesday, is it stale? Does your news need to be reported as it occurs? You want to make
sure that your E-Zine holds up with time.Example:
Are you trying to publish a daily travel E-Zine announcing the "best round trip
airfare from New York to LA? OR Are you publishing a joke-of-the day?
Even though both of the E-Zines in this example are daily publications, you can see right
away that each would be unique in the production schedule. The joke-a-day E-Zine could be
prepared several weeks ahead of time, whereas the Travel E-Zine announcing best fares
would require attention on a daily basis.
Frequency of Publication Evaluation
Daily: Do you have the resources and content to keep up with a daily
publication?
Weekly: Do you have enough information to inspire your readers? Do you
have enough resources to produce and distribute a weekly E-Zine?
Bi-Weekly: Is a weekly E-Zine too often but monthly too far apart?
Monthly: Is it often enough? Do you have enough resources to produce and
distribute monthly?
Publishing too often might overwhelm your readers and the result might well be that you
lose many with unsubscribes or worse, they do not read your publication!
Quick Review:
Review your answers to the
checklists and questionnaires. If your answers indicate that you have $0 in the budget, 45
minutes available on Thursday afternoon AND you want to publish a daily E-Zine with
feature articles, letters to the editor, classified ads and a news digest....keep
reading!!
